An Introduction to African Literature

Image
hi everyone! welcome to this very special post. i was inspired to do this post a couple weeks ago and i'm very excited to share with you all the world of african literature. as an african, i love african literature, it is very near and dear to my heart. there's truly nothing i love than african cultures and learning more about the various cultures and traditions. so i thought, hey let me make a post dedicated to books written by african authors, then i went one step further and decided to focus on zimbabwean authors. in honor of zimbabwean independence being in april (yes i meant to post this in april but school got in the way my bad) and me being zimbabwean i thought i'd be the plug for some juicy tales from my homeland. also while doing more research i found two websites that are all about african literature, one is specifically about zimbabwean lit and the other is a collective of african countries. i suggest giving them a visit if you want so...

may wrap-up & mini reviews

Image
happy june everybody!!! i'm excited to actually be able to report the books i finished in may. starting off i actually made myself a tbr for the month featuring 8 books initially but then i also had books that i've been meaning to read from last summer. so 8 books turned to like 16, it was a mess. so all in all i just decided to make the may tbr, a summer tbr that way i don't feel pressured to read an x amount of books. so now we're here i might actually post these wrap ups monthly because i think they're fun and a nice way to discover new, interesting reads.  in the month of may i finished 5 books (yaayyy)!! - i know why the cage bird sings -the blacker the berry  -the murmurings -the power of six -your face in mine i won't go into much detail about the first two because they have their own posts coming ( i meant to have them up earlier but life and procrastination, i promise to do better).  the murmurings i did a mini review ...

get in sis, we're going book shopping

one of my favorite places on earth as a child was books a million. for me that was my happy place. any time i had the chance to go it was always a good time, regardless if i bought a book or not. being surrounded by some many books, so many stories made me feel so full, i never wanted to leave. finding discount bookstores and being able to buy 5 books for $20, love it! there is something charming about used bookstores. i love them not only because they are inexpensive but that's where you can find all the hidden literary gems. i stan used/discount bookstores forever. bookstores are everything, discovering new bookstores is euphoric for me. but hol' up you want to know when i was really shook? you want to know who really came for my coin and has never let go since?! bookoutlet. no sponsored (but hi hit me up i love y'all). discovering the existence of bookoutlet has changed my life for the better. my bank account is shaking. they have the best deals, they have a wi...

2017 Wrap-up/ 2018 Book Resolutions

Hello there, welcome hope you all had a safe and lovely holiday. It's really cold over here in Toronto and you'd think after living in Canada for 10 years now I'd be used to the cold, haha getmeoutofhere (Dallas 2018). Sooo anyway 2017 was an interesting year, to say the least. It was full of positives and negatives, everything was happening all at once, to be honest, the year was a mess. As for my reading habits those were also a mess. Ever since I've entered university I've kinda entered a reading slump. The only time I did some reading was whenever I was on my commute to and from campus. But that was then and this is now, the reading slump is still present but I'm trying to get myself out of it. I made more attempts this year to read more and not just YA books but I've gotten into thrillers and mysteries so I read some of those and I read some non-fiction. Basically, I was reading whatever I was in the mood for and I had a lot of fun experiencing the genr...
