may wrap-up & mini reviews

happy june everybody!!! i'm excited to actually be able to report the books i finished in may.

starting off i actually made myself a tbr for the month featuring 8 books initially but then i also had books that i've been meaning to read from last summer. so 8 books turned to like 16, it was a mess. so all in all i just decided to make the may tbr, a summer tbr that way i don't feel pressured to read an x amount of books. so now we're here i might actually post these wrap ups monthly because i think they're fun and a nice way to discover new, interesting reads.

in the month of may i finished 5 books (yaayyy)!!

- i know why the cage bird sings
-the blacker the berry
-the murmurings
-the power of six
-your face in mine

i won't go into much detail about the first two because they have their own posts coming ( i meant to have them up earlier but life and procrastination, i promise to do better).

the murmurings i did a mini review on my ig. it was a nice read reminded me a lot of the unbecoming of mara dyer which i enjoyed. i think if you want to dip into reading horror or paranormal mystery YA novels this one is a good starter. it's highkey predictable and the main character makes dumb decisions but personally i expected no less. read it or don't, do you playa. *TW-self harm and mention of suicide

the power six is the second book in the i am number four series. i won't spoil anyone who wants to read the series. it basically picks up from where the first book left off with sam, john aka four and six. we are introduced to seven who's in spain. i'm really enjoying this series. the second book was full of action and suspense.sam and four's bromance is honestly my favorite part of the novels. i highly recommend if you haven't already to check out the series.

your face in mine i have to admit took me a minute to finish. not because of the book itself but i got into a book slump were i was never in the mood to read. if i did read it would be for short periods of time. but i found my chance and i finally got to finish it. the premise of the book is our main character kelly runs into a man who says he's his old friend martin but martin was white and this man was black. his friend tells him he underwent racial reassignment surgery (trans-rachel teas). i had mixed feelings thoughout reading this book because race is more complex than skin color and facial features. kelly is grieving the loss of his wife and young daughter, he feels lost. through martin, kelly is trying to find his purpose and who he truly is. we have to remember that race and gender are social constructs. we all want to belong somewhere and this book details humans need to find their true selves. that's sort of how i interpreted the book it's not everything these are what stood out to me the most. overall, i liked this book and if you're looking to get an alternate view of society i would recommend you pick this up. hopefully this review made sense lol it's kind of hard to describe this book wihout giving away all the tea. ya dig? *TW-drug abuse and mention of suicide and depression

this was fun. i hope you all enjoyed this. hope you all are doing great. enjoying the sun and the heat. happy reading. i'll talk to y'all soon. #litreadz
